Stopping Diversion

At NNCIP we understand the underlying problems caused by controlled substance diversion and abuse. Denying the magnitude of the issues would be negligent for anyone in the medical community. We feel a responsibility to take part in stopping diversion and helping with dependency issues to the best of our ability.

We clearly recognize and have adopted all state and federal guidelines set forth to help in going our part. Listed below are just some of the steps we take at NNCIP:

  1. We have dedicated medical records specialist who filter through all records in order to recognize any suspicious patterns or alterations in x-rays, MRI’s, progress notes, etc.
  2. Our team frequently will contact medical facilities or doctor’s offices to confirm visits, times, and dates.
  3. All NNCIP employees have mandatory training on federal and state regulations in reference to controlled substances such as the DEA’s Suspicious Orders Identification Criteria policy guidelines.
  4. All employees are trained on the Federal Prescribing Laws set forth in the policies of Title 21 Code of Federal Regulation Part CFR 1306.X for prescribing and dispending of controlled substances.
  5. NNCIP has developed a secured patient authentication program named “Identity Assurance”. This program includes the use of an encrypted hardware mini USB device sensibly called The S.T.I.C. which stand for Secure Transaction Identification Chip. The S.T.I.C is issued by NNCIP to the patient and is required by the patient to be inserted into their computer when requesting refills from the physician or attending their phone consultations. The technology used in the S.T.I.C. is called 3-Factor Authentication which demands that the patient have the device on their person, enter certain data only they would know, and enter a secured password.

At NNCIP, we will continue to strive in setting standards for our industry and provide education not only the patients but also physicians in this complex industry where controlled substances are involved.
